Individualized, Innovative Education (WINGS Initiative)
One of the core concepts of WINGS is the Individualized education. Expanding on our highly successful multi-age program, our students receive a truly individualized learning experience. Not every child learns at the same pace, or is reached in the same way.
At Divine Providence Academy, we understand that it is important to reach every child where they are, and engage them in active learning. By allowing students to obtain skill growth at their individual pace, through work in small groups, 1:1, and the use of supportive technology, each child will receive a set of tailor-made wings. With their wings, every student can soar to new heights of academic achievement.
People ask how every student will be successful in the multi-aged classroom. They wonder, "What if my child doesn't push themselves, will they receive all the skills they need?" There is an important distinction between a student's Best Pace, and their Preferred Pace.
A student-centered classroom isn’t a place where the students decide what they learn and what they want to do. It’s a place where we consider the needs of the students, as a group and as individuals, and encourage them to participate in the learning process all the time. Engaged students are the result, and engaged students are thriving, learning students!
“The cost of trying to teach all children in the same way regardless of their readiness, learning styles, or preferences is a massive inefficiency of time - we spend time teaching kids skills they're not ready to learn and that others have mastered. The amount of time we waste trying to deliver such one size fits all instruction is incredibly high."
